Our first sightseeing day was spent in the adorable little city of Antigua. The former capitol city of Guatemala, Antigua is now mostly a tourist destination, thanks to its beautiful architecture and old monasteries.

Antigua
Before we stopped in the actual city, our group visited an orphanage in the suburbs. It's a Catholic orphanage, run by a group of really sweet nuns, and it was a surprisingly nice facility. The grounds were beautifully tended, and all the children were clean and well-fed and friendly. Every single little girl there had her hair fixed. We handed out little toys for all the kids and played with them for a while before continuing on to Antigua.
My friend Jeff speaks Spanish, so he was nice to have around.

Once in Antigua, we headed to an old monastery that has been converted into a high-class hotel and restaurant. We had a delicious lunch there and took some photos of the beautiful gardens.

Look closely at that poster... it's blurry, but it says "JESUCRISTO" underneath the Superman sign. Haha.
Later that night, there was a big meeting with the whole group and some local leaders who helped organize the trip. Some of the young men and women who we worked on came and handed out medals to everyone in the group. They say "Sonrisas Para Guatemala," which is the name of the group. That's "Smiles For Guatemala," for those who don't speak Spanish.

That Sounds Like such a Neat place! Those kids look cute, and the pics are way nice. you and your padre are so cute:) oh and so is your spanish speaking friend:) I'm glad you had such a great time:)
